Parking
Half-Price Christmas Parking for Dublin City!
From 1st December to 8th January (inclusive) any motorist who parks on-street in a paid parking place and pays using Parking Tag will be charged half the normal tariff (for example, in the very high demand yellow zone the tariff will be €1.45 per hour instead of the standard tariff of €2.90 per hour). The 50% discount will apply anywhere in the City.
Parking Tag is Dublin City Council’s cash-free system for paying for on-street parking in Dublin City. The Tag is a bar-coded sticker which is affixed to the front windscreen of the user’s vehicle. The Tag is linked to the vehicle registration number and the motorist’s mobile phone. The motorist simply parks in any paid parking space in the city and makes the transaction by a short phone call (local call) or by sending a text message. It’s that easy! The parking session can be extended (up to the maximum time permitted – normally three hours) by making a further phone call or sending another text message. There is also the option of a text reminder ten minutes before the end of the parking session. There is no need for users to interact with the parking ticket machines. No more fumbling for change, running to and from the meter in the rain or rushing back to get another ticket! The cost of each transaction is deducted from the motorist’s credit/debit card account. Parking Tag transactions are recorded by the City Council’s parking enforcement contractor whose staff are in a position to instantly ascertain whether a vehicle displaying a Tag is parked legally or not by scanning the Tag with the Handheld.
In the two years since its launch, Parking Tag has become the simple, secure, convenient, hassle-free alternative way to park in the City. Its success has far exceeded all expectations and the Council is confident that it will continue to grow in popularity. It’s the ideal way to pay for parking when visiting the city centre for business, to shop or for leisure.
Full information on the system is available at www.parkingtag.ie or by phoning the call centre at 0818 300 161.

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that there will be changes to car park charges at train stations from Monday 12th December.
While machine charges for daily and weekly parking will increase, customers can ensure that the price of parking is unchanged by switching to ParkByText where there will be no increase. Monthly charges will effectively be reduced for all customers, with the validity of the €30 monthly rate for machine or ParkByText customers extended from 28 days to 31 days for no extra charge.
Full details of new rates from 12th December 2011 are:
| Parking Duration | Machine Charge | ParkByText Charge (Unchanged) |
| Daily* | €3 (was €2) | €2 |
| Weekly* | €10 (was €8) | €8 |
| Monthly* (now 31 days instead of 28) | €30 (unchanged) | €30 |
| Day parking charges at Heuston, Connolly, Cork | €8 (was €7) | €7 |
*at a range of DART, Commuter and Intercity stations – full details at www.irishrail.ie
The revised charges mean that, as well as being a more convenient way of paying for parking, ParkByText is now the cheapest way also, with no increase on current rates. The monthly charge now sees customers’ parking rates reduced to less than €1 per day for all payment methods.
Customers can also open a ParkByText account, with added benefits including:
- Shorter and simpler payment process (An account holder is only required to send a short text message to complete payment whereas an unregistered user needs to send a similar text message followed by providing their credit card details to a voicemail phone number)
- Account holders have the option to receive text messages and/or emails with updates on special parking offers and system enhancements
- Account holders can select a free option of automatic top up to their account balance ensuring that they always have funds set aside for their parking charges
A 50 cent monthly account maintenance charge applies to customers choosing this option.
